Background: In recent years, the state of California has recognized the potential of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in addressing the ongoing housing crisis. To amplify housing density and mitigate the housing shortage, the state has permitted the construction of ADUs within city boundaries.
Our Approach: Driven by the increasing interest in ADUs, our team embarked on a mission to simplify the process for homeowners aspiring to introduce an ADU in their premises. Recognizing that most single-family homes have common characteristics, like square footage and program, but differ significantly in site specifics and placement according to the unique plot of land, we saw an opportunity to revolutionize the design process.
Solution: Through leveraging the capabilities of artificial intelligence, we've minimized the traditionally time-consuming and bureaucratic procedures tied to ADU design. Our first milestone was the development of an automated housing floor plan layout system. To power this, we curated a comprehensive dataset of single-family housing layouts and trained AI models to discern the optimal layouts derived from GIS data footprints.
With our solution, homeowners can now efficiently and effectively envision an ADU that is tailored to their unique property while aligning with the broader architectural trends of single-family homes.
