Softcore is a responsive installation to the Archeworks Wasted Market research driven certificate program and is part of NeoCon in Chicago. It is hard on the outside and soft on the inside. The architecture was conceived using the analogy of a landfill, where a mass of waste is covered by a crust of turf. It was built from materials harvested from completed construction projects and manufacturers’ surpluses, and its distinct exterior character and interior environment reveal the robust qualities of wasted or hidden resources. The design/build team included Marc Manack, and Frank Jacobus with SILO AR+D and Fay Jones School, as well as Fay Jones School students Christopher Galindo, Colton Lattimer, Daniel Matthews, Anna Morris, Polina Timchenko and Brenden Wohltjen.
